Emmy Award-winning Jorge R. Gutiérrez is a Mexican animator, painter, voice actor, writer, and director. Born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, he graduated from CalArts and has worked on numerous films, animated series, and paintings that reflect his deep passion for Mexican pop and folk culture.

Gutiérrez was the director and co-writer of the Guillermo del Toro-produced animated feature The Book of Life for 20th Century Fox. He also wrote and directed the Emmy-nominated VR short Son of Jaguar for Google.

Alongside his wife and muse, Sandra Equihua, he created the multiple Emmy Award-winning animated series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon.

In 2021, Gutiérrez created the event series Maya and the Three for Netflix, which won four Emmy Awards.

Most recently, he designed the opening sequence for The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror XXXV.
