Saturday (31.05)Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Jonathan Bailey is a critically acclaimed actor known for his dynamic performances across film, television, and theater.
Most recently, Bailey starred as Fiyero in Universal’s Wicked: Part One, alongside Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. The film earned ten Academy Award nominations, and Bailey received a SAG nomination for his role, which he will reprise in Wicked: For Good, set to release in November. He is currently starring in the West End production of Richard II, playing the title role. Bailey will next appear in Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth, leading the cast opposite Scarlett Johansson.
In 2023, Bailey starred alongside Matt Bomer in the Showtime limited series Fellow Travelers, created by Ron Nyswaner and based on the novel by Thomas Mallon. For his portrayal of Tim Laughlin, affectionately known as “Skippy,” Bailey earned an Emmy nomination and won a Critics Choice Award. The Golden Globe–nominated series follows a decades-long romance between two men who first meet during the McCarthy era of the 1950s.
In 2022, Bailey headlined the second season of Shondaland’s Bridgerton, which broke Netflix’s record for the most-viewed English-language title in a single week. He will return as Anthony Bridgerton in the upcoming fourth season, expected to premiere later this year.
That same year, he completed a successful run in Marianne Elliott’s production of Company, for which he won an Olivier Award, as well as the West End revival of Mike Bartlett’s Cock, co-starring Joel Harper-Jackson.
Bailey’s additional film and television credits include Broadchurch (alongside David Tennant and Olivia Colman), The Mercy (with Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz), Michaela Coel’s Chewing Gum, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Crashing.
